Rossendale, UK: Nuisance Noise campaign
March, 2006
Noise nuisance will not be tolerated in Rossendale. That's the message from the Council's Environmental Health Department to people who cause noise misery to their neighbours.
Anyone who fails to comply with a noise abatement notice may face enforcement action from the Council, be taken to court, fined up to £5,000 or have their equipment seized and destroyed.
To help get the message across, Council Leader Duncan Ruddick demonstrated what people who play loud amplified music can expect if they have their hi-fi seized.
Last year, Rossendale Council investigated more than 200 cases of alleged noise pollution including barking dogs, loud music and TV, shouting, banging doors, DIY activities, fireworks, motor vehicles, faulty burglar and car alarms, noise from pubs and clubs, and factory noise.
